Projeto Arrastao

PROJETO ARRASTÃO is a non-profit organization founded in 1968 which works with low income families and their children in one of São Paulo’s poorest outlying neighborhoods.   The project runs a day care, after school educational and cultural programs with sports, music, theatre, and art, and family support with a team of social workers.   The project’s  “fashion and design” workshop, a partnership with design students from a local university, began with mothers of children attended by the project with the objective of providing occupational training and income generation.   The project produces fun and functional items made from discarded vinyl billboards and banners.   Sales from these products provide the artisans with their families’ principal source of income.
